More information about
A LITTLE BIT OF
SPACKLE
MAIN POINT
Bitterness creeps in
slowly. Squashing little irritations can lead to a root of bitterness. It
is easy to keep covering our feelings and blaming others, but when we let
the light of Christ into our hearts, those covered-over patches are
exposed. Jesus perfects us by transforming us, not by hiding the bad
stuff.
CHARACTERIZATION
Donna is full of hope
and life! She is excited about the new challenges but also experiencing
some fears and insecurity.
Dig deep to find some interesting levels for
Kathy. It is easy to play her
bitter and jaded. But under
that layer of spackle there is potential for life in her even though
her feelings are confused and she is genuinely hurting.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
1) Costuming: To
indicate Donna's pregnancy, use a maternity shirt with a funny saying ('Under
Construction' for example). Use masking tape to secure a small pillow to
an undershirt.
2) Blocking: Go as far as you like with the 'spackling.'
The audience will enjoy being behind the wall. Just remember to set
limits as to how high and wide the wall is. Mime should be consistent to
be effective.
RELATED
SCRIPTURES
In John 7:38, Jesus
promises believers that streams of living water, the Holy Spirit, will
flow from within us. That
would include our attitudes toward friends and family.
Contrast this with James 3:9-11 where we are reminded that we can't
praise God one minute and curse man the next.
Our response to the light of Christ would also be
a good contrast to the sketch. In Matthew 6:22, Jesus says that if our eye
is good our whole body will be full of light, and in Matthew 5:14-16, he
calls us to be the light of the world.

women's ministry. Ungodly
advice and dealing with negative emotions would all be good context for
this sketch.
