ADOPTED
MAIN POINT
Unconditional love is a hard
subject to grasp. We are distrustful of grandiose promises. Things that
seem too good to be true usually are. Most human relationship has failed
at one point or another.
So to hear of Gods unfailing
love can arouse both great hope and skepticism hope that it could be
true, fear that it isnt. The passage on which this sketch is based
talks about being adopted into Gods family no longer as slaves, but
as children.
Just as Alison has a hard time understanding
acceptance without performance, so many Christians still live in fear
hoping they havent crossed the line, hoping they wont be kicked out
of the family.
CHARACTERIZATION
Dad Since Dad is
representing Gods unconditional love, weve portrayed him as perfect
as a father can be in such a situation. Play him as approachable and
down-to-earth. His lines elaborate his character.
Alison Shes had a hard life. As a result, shes a bit on
the tough side slightly tomboyish. Shes determined and a fierce
competitor, but still soft underneath.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
1) Take your time with the visual
introduction. It will arouse the curiosity of the audience and help them
understand her later.
2) At some point Dad should put his
arm around Alison to comfort her.
3) Make sure theres good eye
contact between them at the crucial conclusion.
4) This is a heart-jerker.
Overlapping the end with one of our suggested songs would really drive
things home.
