“…forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.” ( Phil. 3:13-14)

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. ( Eph. 4:15)

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation…
(1Pet. 2:2)

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)

Scene opens with PLANT sitting on stage in a large pot. He looks anemic and dry. Enter GARDENER with spray bottle, crossing to PLANT and begins spraying.

PLANT: Stop it! What are you trying to do, drown me?

GARDENER: (Startled) Uh, well, no...you look kind of dry and I thought you needed some water.

PLANT: I need nourishment, all right, but not a shower, for heaven’s sake.

GARDENER: I’m sorry. I didn’t know. Maybe if I put a little Miracle Grow in the spray bottle...

PLANT: No, you don’t understand. It’s not my leaves that need nourishment. That’s just what you see on the surface. It’s what’s underneath...the roots...that need food.

GARDENER: Okay...

PLANT: But not just food. My roots need space.

GARDENER: I don’t understand.

PLANT: I’m root bound.

GARDENER: Oh, no wonder you look so...so...puny!

PLANT: (Slightly offended) Thanks a lot.

GARDENER: What can I do?

PLANT: Transplant me to a bigger pot for starters.

GARDENER: But you look so comfortable in that pot. And, see, that pot is an antique. It was my grandmother’s pot.

PLANT: Yeah. Well, get too comfortable...and you don’t grow. Granny’s pot doesn’t work for me.

GARDENER: Hmmm. I guess you’re right.

PLANT: It’s like growing spiritually, you know. You get too comfortable with your space...and before you know it, you stop growing. And when you stop growing...what’s on the surface gets sickly...and you start looking...well, puny. (Starting to cry) The other plants can be so cruel.

GARDENER: (Trying to comfort) I’m sorry. I didn’t know.

PLANT: It’s okay. Just get me out of this antique pot and giving me some growing room. Please?

GARDENER: Sure. Right away.

The PLANT and GARDENER speak as they exit

PLANT: Thanks. Plants are people, too, ya know.

GARDENER: No, I didn’t realize.

PLANT: The name’s Pete...Pete Moss.

GARDENER: Nice to meet you, Pete.
