Director's Tip: There is some blocking and improvisation required for this piece. Much of it depends on the size of your audience and how far actors can go stepping into the church, climbing over pews, pushing through the band/choir and going absolutely wild. There needs to be a wild, comical energy about this, along the lines of Robin Williams let loose in a church service. Cast accordingly. Two actors shyly walking around the stage will ruin this. Make sure they do not harass "guests" who may be offended or put off by being singled out. The FIRST ending is more thought provoking and convicting. The SECOND ending is more hopeful and communicates the message of the cross.

Two EASTER EGG HUNTERS frantically enter from opposite sides of the stage. They begin to wildly infiltrate the audience, looking under chairs, behind pews, under deacons, in pianos, in pocketbooks, in the pastor's jacket. If there's a choir or band, let them climb over drums, push through the baritones, whatever. Every now and then they find an egg and shout out with a "Yes!" "Got it!" "That's another!" "All right."

At one point the two HUNTERS meet on stage. They both see the same egg at the same time hidden behind a central podium. They dive, wrestle, tumble, eggs flying, hair tousled. HUNTER 1 grabs it and does a dance, like a football player going in for a touchdown and dancing in the end zone. Finally, they scoop up all their eggs, brush themselves off, smile to each other and continue hunting.

The hunt begins to slow down and the two HUNTERS sense that the game is coming to an end. Their paths cross middle stage. It all must be over.

HUNTER 2 finds it first, hidden in another location on stage. He picks it up and holds it. A cross. HUNTER 1 curiously walks over to examine the discovery. They scratch their heads, looking at the cross from all directions. They listen to it, smell it, touch it.

Not finding it of any value, one HUNTER tosses it over his or her shoulder. HUNTER 2 points at something offstage and the two HUNTERS reinstate the egg hunt, exiting as they do.

Lights out.

2nd Possible Ending:

HUNTER 2 finds it first, hidden in another location on stage. He picks it up and holds it. A cross. HUNTER 1 curiously walks over to examine the discovery. They scratch their heads, looking at the cross from all directions. They listen to it, smell it, touch it.

They drop their egg baskets, look to one another, burst out in tears and embrace. Enemies now have become friends. They walk off, carrying the cross down the middle aisle and out the back door.

Lights out.
