Reflections on Parenting from A Mom In the Trenches

When I was reading over scripts for Mother’s Day, it was as though life slammed me in the face because lately I’ve worried that I’m failing as a mom. I probably allow my kids too much television time, and I probably spend too much time worrying about keeping my house clean. I probably don’t sit down often enough to explain to my kids how to be a man and woman of God.

But then I realized that it is through the simplest daily activities that I’m able to teach my children about God, without even realizing it. Being a godly mom happens through kind and gentle words offered when it would be easier to lash out due to impatience (mine, not theirs). It happens when I model the love that Christ has for me as I love and honor my husband in front of them. I can use phrases such as, “I’m proud of you” and “You can do all things through Christ…” when they feel like giving up. It is showing them the unconditional love of their heavenly Father who is so proud of them and who cares so much.

I realize that those are the true life lessons. And we only get one chance with the precious little ones that God has entrusted to us. Being the best parent that I can be is worth taking a couple of lessons from the greatest Father of all!
